unopost

Many court and tribunal documents can be served by posting them to the other party. Upload yours and we print and post them the day you pay: up to 80 pages in one envelope, from as many as 10 files, in the order you set.

Whether post counts as service depends on the document and the court's or tribunal's rules. A document that starts a case often has to be handed over in person; later ones can usually go by post. Check the rules, or ask the registry, before you rely on it. We don't give legal advice.

Signature on delivery, $6, is ticked for you. Untick it to post from $10.

Before you post

  • Check post is allowed for this document, and which address to use: usually the address for service on the other party's own documents.
  • Put everything in one upload, in order: the document, then its annexures.
  • Count the days. Rules usually treat a posted document as served a set number of days after posting, so post early.
  • Upload the signed or sealed copy: we print exactly what you upload.
  • Serving more than one party? Choose Several under Send to and paste each address. Each gets their own tracked copy.

A court may ask for an affidavit of service saying what was posted, when and to which address. Our email gives you the date the letter was lodged and its tracking number. Ask the registry who should swear it when a service posts for you.

A record it arrived

Service is about showing the documents were sent the right way, and when.

Tracking, on every letter
We email you the tracking number the day it's posted. Australia Post's record shows its first scan and the day it was delivered.
Signature on delivery, $6 extra
Handed to a person and signed for, never left in the letterbox: a record of who received it. With regular post that's Registered post, $16 in all.
Your own copy
Keep the file you uploaded and our email with the tracking number. Together they show what was sent, when and to where.

Whether a record is accepted for a legal purpose is up to whoever asks for it.

How long it takes

Pay by 2:30pm Melbourne time on a business day and it's posted that day, otherwise the next business day. Express Post usually arrives the next business day within Australia Post's network; regular post takes 3 to 7 business days.

Those are Australia Post's estimates, not a guarantee. If a deadline is close, use Express Post.

What it costs

Questions

Can court documents be served by post?

Often, but it depends on the document and the court or tribunal. Documents that start a case commonly need personal service; many others can be posted to the other party's address for service. Check the rules or ask the registry.

How do I prove documents were served by post?

Keep the file you uploaded and our email, which gives the date the letter was lodged with Australia Post and its tracking number. Add signature on delivery for $6 for a record of who received it. Whether that's accepted is up to the court or tribunal.

How many pages can I serve in one envelope?

Up to 80 pages, from up to 10 files, printed in the order you choose. Express Post is $20 for the first 20 pages, then $0.30 a page.

Is Unopost a process server?

No. We print and post what you upload. We don't deliver by hand or swear affidavits of service. For personal service, use a process server.
