unopost

Some IRS forms still have to go on paper, and folded pages don't suit them. Upload the PDF, and we print it in Melbourne and post it to the US flat in a B4 envelope, tracked and signed for, from $50.

International post has no customs form, so anyone can send it, from anywhere, with no phone number. Check three things: the signature, the page layout and the address.

First, the signature

We print exactly what you upload, so a signature in your PDF arrives as a printed copy. The IRS accepts that on some forms and not others.

Accepted with a scanned or typed signature

  • Form 3520 and 3520-A: foreign trusts and gifts, such as an Australian inheritance
  • Form 8802: a US residency certification, to claim treaty benefits
  • Form 8832: an entity classification election
  • Form 709 and 706: gift and estate tax returns
  • Form 1042, Form 3115 and Section 83(b) elections

These are on the IRS list of forms that accept an electronic signature, which includes a scanned image of your handwritten signature.

Needs your pen

  • Form 1040, 1040-X and 1040-NR on paper need a handwritten ink signature. A printed signature makes the return invalid, so e-file it, or print, sign and post it yourself.
  • Form W-7 for an ITIN needs your original passport or a certified copy, which we can't enclose.

Replies to an IRS letter, with the notice and your supporting documents, are fine to post with us, unless the notice asks you to sign a form.

Does it have to be single-sided?

No. The IRS prints its own forms on both sides, and prefers the same for a form of several pages. Its one rule is that two different forms never share a sheet, so page 2 of Form 3520 can sit on the back of page 1, but Schedule A can't sit on the back of the last page of something else.

We print single-sided unless you tick double-sided. Leave it off when you upload several forms together, and every form starts on its own sheet. Turn it on only for a single form with an even number of pages.

A4, flat, not folded

You don't need US Letter paper: upload the IRS PDF as it is and we fit it to A4. Choose the B4 envelope and it goes flat, so the pages reach the IRS scanners without a crease.

Where to send it

Each form's instructions give its address. The common ones from abroad, as at 28 September 2026:

FormAddress
Form 1040, no paymentDepartment of the Treasury, Internal Revenue Service, Austin, TX 73301-0215, USA
Form 3520Internal Revenue Service Center, P.O. Box 409101, Ogden, UT 84409, USA
Form 8802, fee paid onlineDepartment of the Treasury, Internal Revenue Service, Philadelphia, PA 19255-0625, USA

P.O. boxes are fine: International post is delivered by the US Postal Service. Couriers such as DHL and FedEx can't deliver to them. Don't post a payment with us; pay online through IRS Direct Pay or an international wire.

Some forms can go by fax

A few IRS forms take a fax, which lands in minutes instead of weeks. unofax, our sister service, faxes a PDF to the US for $0.59 a page, with delivery confirmation by email.

  • Form 8802: fax up to 10 forms, 100 pages in all, to +1 304-707-9792, with a cover sheet giving the page count. Pay the user fee online first and put the confirmation number on page 1.
  • Form SS-4 for an EIN, when your business has no US address: fax it to +1 304-707-9471.
  • A reply to an IRS letter, when the letter gives a fax number.

Forms 1040, 3520 and 8832 have no fax number, so post them.

Getting it there on time

  • The IRS treats a return posted from abroad as on time if its official postmark is on or before the due date, however long it takes to arrive.
  • Americans living in Australia get an automatic extension to June 15, though interest on tax owed runs from April 15.
  • Pay by 2:30pm Melbourne time on a business day and we lodge it with Australia Post that day. Its tracking record shows the lodgement date.
  • International post takes 15+ business days to the US, so post well before the due date.

Which service

International post in the B4 envelope is $50 with 20 pages included, then $0.30 a page, tracked and signed for on delivery. That covers most returns, with their schedules, in one envelope. It's GST-free, so that's the whole price.

ServiceTo the USPrice
International post, B4 envelope, flat15+ business days$50
International post, small envelope, folded15+ business days$30

The small envelope is cheaper at $30, but only up to 12 pages, and folded. Either way it's tracked and signed for, so allow for the delivery time and post well before the due date. If the form can be faxed and the deadline is close, fax it.

The short version

If the form accepts a scanned signature, upload it, leave double-sided off unless it's one form, and send it by International post in the B4 envelope to the address in its instructions. If it has a fax number, such as Form 8802, fax it with unofax instead. If it's a paper 1040, sign it in ink yourself.
